About the Artist
Ikon Chiba (b. 1984) is a Japanese-Egyptian visual artist and creative director working between Cairo and Osaka. With a background in visual communication, their practice explores the intersection of art, design, and cultural satire, often remixing familiar symbols to reveal how identity and illusion shape everyday life.Chiba has nearly two decades of experience across visual culture, including magazines, fashion, branding, and film, collaborating with artists and studios in New York, Japan, Germany, Denmark, and Egypt. Their work balances conceptual humor with visual precision, drawing on Japanese minimalism and Egyptian storytelling.Notably, their logo/sticker project *Al-Awham* (The Delusion) reimagines Egypt’s iconic Al-Ahram newspaper logo, reflecting on media, perception, and collective myth while engaging with language, nostalgia, and design history.
