About the Artist
Chams Kamel, born in 1996, grew up in Alexandria before completing his architecture studies in Toulouse. He is now based in Marseille, specializing in digital scenography. Through his art, he has collaborated locally with the FRAC Sud Museum, exhibited at the PAC Off contemporary art festival, and participated in independent, non-profit exhibitions in Marseille, often in collaboration with associations and social projects.Inspired by Egyptian culture and, more broadly, Arab and African heritage, one of his main approaches is creating visual testimonies based on photo archives. Collage serves as a key tool in this process, enabling him to juxtapose elements that may seem opposed to reveal a sense of tension, or to place them in dialogue to highlight unexpected connections and contexts. The subject is always central to his work, serving as the starting point for each composition. He then develops the form by experimenting with scale, layering, and juxtaposition. The resulting compositions bring together a subject and its surrounding context, whether architectural, historical, or social
